How to Play Multi-Player Civilization
II
Most Civilization II fans wish or have wished
that they could challenge their friends to a game of Civ2. But the game
Civilization II has remained a Single Player game and MicroProse hasn't
followed through on their promise to release a patch making Civ2 Multi-Player.
But there is an egg in the program allowing us to make it Multi-Player
without the help of MicroProse. There quite simply is a code in the Civ2
savegames that when changed makes the game treat that player as another
human player. So when that players turn comes up, the game automatically
switches the Map View over to that Civilizations and lets the Player make
all the decisions. The only dificulty is with the Diplomacy screen because
when having diplomatic relations with another human player, the computer
AI handles the negotiations. Assides that, you have complete control over
all Domestic and other AI player relations.
How to set up a Multi-Player Game
in Civilizations II
-
Start a game normally in Single Player mode selecting
all civilizations you want, human or other wise.
-
When the game first starts, enter cheat mode and
enter each players name as the ruler of their civilization and modify their
attitude toward other human players to better match. Save it as a scenario.
-
Restart Civ2 under the scenario and then promptly
save it.
-
Exit Civ2 and load the savegame modifier provided
below.
-
Select Load and find the savegame.
-
Select the square next to the civilizations you want
to be human players.
-
Select Save and then Quit. But make sure you give
it long enough to make it's changes because it lets you click Quit even
before it is done saving.
-
Reload Civilization II and load your savegame.
-
Only play when it's your turn and don't ask them
for stuff when you know the Person wouldn't give it to you!
