My name is Gwyndolyn Jones. I am a freshman here at NC State and I am majoring in Civil Engineering. I hope to one day become a successful engineer working in an architectural-based company. I have always loved homes, buildings and architecture in general, so I plan on focusing in the structural aspect of civil. I had applied to the design school for architecture, but unfortunately did not get in. I soon realized that an engineering degree would go much farther and do more for me, so I decided to go into my second choice of engineering here at State. I am also planning on minoring in something art or design related, so to keep in touch wiht my more artistic side.
This past Halloween I went to Franklin Street in Chapel Hill with some of my suitemates. It was a fairly interesting and a good experience for a first time trip. However, it was kind of a hastle driving all the way down to Chapel Hill and back so late at night. If Hillsborough Street has started events that are mirroring Franklin Street, then I believe they should try a more open approach. Franklin is crowded and hardly anything is open, so the only thing ot do is walk up and down the street. It would be interesting if State had some kind of contests for best costumes and other categories. Also, if businesses were open late and there were activities to partake in, then I, and I'm sure others too, would be more likely to stick around Raleigh and spend my Halloween night here. If these things were to come about, I'm sure State would rival Franklin on Halloween.
