Undergraduate Advising
Notes

All Students: Do NOT take courses for credit only - they will NOT count toward your degree, and you will have to retake them or take another course for a grade. You must take courses for a grade, including technical and advised electives. The only exceptions are Physical Education and any course you want and expect to appear in the "non-degree" section of your degree audit. If you are unsure, please ask!

Fisheries, Wildlife, & Conservation Biology Students: There have been many changes to these curricula - course numbers have changed and there are many substitutions. You should still follow your degree audit, but see this rather long list of changes for substitutions: FWS Curriculm Changes.

Conservation Biology in Practice: This is a new introductory course that I'm teaching, with Shari Rodriguez, with a primary focus on the scientific aspects of conservation biology. more

Advising in Person

If you've never visited me before, or have received any kind of academic warning, you should make an appointment to see me in person.

If you need extensive help with scheduling, deciding what to take, or anything like that, please make an apointment to see me.

Otherwise, you can probably take care of advising electronically -- see instructions for Electronic Advising.

  • Visit my general office schedule and find a few 30-minute periods in the available times (light green) that work for you. The time you pick should be at least 24 hours from the current time.
  • Send me an e-mail or call me with 2-3 possible times.
  • Please put "***Advising appointment request" in the e-mail subject line.
  • I will confirm your appointment.

  • Please remember to come to your appointment - you'd be amazed at how many forget.
  • Please let me know, if you have to cancel your appointment.
  • Come to the appointment with your schedule worked out as much as possible, so that we can focus on the particular issues you need resolved.

  • If you can't make any of the times, please contact me and we'll work something out.
  • Electronic Advising

I will advise electronically, if your proposed schedule is straightforward and we have met for advising before.

I will not advise electronically, if we have never met in person or if you have received any kind of academic warning -- please make an appointment for Advising in Person.

If there are some things we need to work out, you can send me a detailed e-mail or make an appointment to visit.

  • Go to your MyPack Portal page and use the Degree Planner to show me what courses you'll take in the coming semester. (Video showing how to use the Degree Planner.)
  • Once you have completed planning, click the "Submit Plan" button.
  • Please send me an E-mail indicating that you have submitted a plan of work for approval - I do not get notified in any other way.
  • Please put "***Plan submitted" in the subject line.
  • If there are no problems, I'll release your advising hold and let you know by e-mail. Otherwise, we'll work through the problems by e-mail or through a phone or in-person conversation.

I reserve the right to require a personal visit before releasing your enrollment hold.
