Many problems in Engineering and the Sciences involve large systems of equations. Topics: direct and iterative methods for linear systems, least squares, eigenvalue problems, singular value decomposition, resolution of nonlinear systems. Books:
Final grade: determined by 6 or 7 projects during the semester (80%) and a mid-term exam (20%) (date TBA). The students are welcome to work on the projects and submit in group, a group being a set of one, two or three students. The use of TeX is strongly encouraged but not required.
