Turfgrass Project
Members of the Forecasting Lab are currently working with the NC State Department
of Plant Pathology toward developing a Turf Disease Warning System. The warning system aims to decrease fungicide use
through forecasting turfgrass diseases based on certain meteorological conditions. The success of a warning system will facilitate a more precise
and valuable fungicide application, because it will maximize the benefits of each application. A decrease in fungicide application is desirable both
environmentally and economically; excessive use is financially taxing and has adverse environmental effects.
The warning system will be accessible online and available for real-time use by turfgrass managers who will be able to schedule fungicide
applications according to weather conditions and the current turfgrass disease threat.
