2. Goals and Objectives:

  Differential equations - population growth, flow processes, finance and

investment models, systems; functions of several variables - partial

derivatives, optimization, least squares, multiple integrals; Lagrange

multiplier method - chain rule, gradient; Taylor polynomials and series;

numerical methods


3. Textbook:Goldstein, Lay and Schneider, 9-th edition                                                                    Prices will be posted outside of HA 255

5. Tentative schedule of reading assignments

None

        6. Tentative schedule of homework due dates, quizzes and tests

        Test 1 will be given the 9-th day of classes

        Test 2 will be given the 15-th day of classes

        Test 3 will be given on about the 22-th day of classes


         7. Determination of grades: + and - system

 Homework: No homework is taken up during the summer
 Tests: 2 of the 3 tests count 28% each, the lowest test counts 14% .
  Altogether the 3 tests count 70% Final  Exam: 30%

   + and - grades are given sparingly and usually given only to the highest and lowest grades in a particular   rank.

   Attendance is required. Make up tests are given only in verifiable extreme circumstances but will not be   given at all to students with poor attendance records


 8. Policy on incomplete grades and late assignments

         Incompletes are given only in extreme documentable circumstances. 


 

        9. Policy on absences (excused and unexcused) and scheduling makeup work:

Reasons for missing a test or the final exam must be fully documented. Makeups are given only in circumstances I regard as extreme.

Make-ups are not friviously arranged and are not be given at all to students with poor attendance records.
