Japan-related Minors:

Process: Please note there are two minors, and each requires two stages of paperwork: “declaration” and “completion.” To declare a minor, go to the website for that minor, download the declaration form, get the necessary signatures, then take the form to Susan Navey-Davis in the Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures. To file for completion, go directly to Susan Navey-Davis. The sooner you finish the first stage, the better it helps our Japan-related programs survive against the flood of “more popular” (?) languages and cultures.

Japanese Language: requires 15 hours of Japanese language study at the FLJ201 level or above, of which at least 9 hours must be taken at NC State or at an NC State SAO-sponsored program. Administrated by John Mertz (John_Mertz@ncsu.edu).

Japan Studies: requires 18 (soon to be changed to 15) hours of Japan-related classes. FLJ202 proficiency is required, but no more than 6 hours of language study can count to this minor. Administrated by John Mertz (John_Mertz@ncsu.edu).
