Currently developing a java application that will model the spread of Nosocomial pathogens. This application will allow the user to control important infection parameters such as transmission rates, hand hygiene, and environmental clean rates.
Most research on nosocomial diseases (disease aquired during a hospital visit) focus primarily on the hands of health care workers in controlling the spread of infection. This model, however, includes the idea of environmental units serving as a reservoir of nosocomial pathogens. The hands of health care workers still serve as the main vector of disease spread, but the impact of environmental contamination is one of the main goals of this research.
