This table shows the change by level in the Five
Forks Region for the period from 1992 to 2002. A positive number
represents a gain from 1992 to 2002 in that paticular category. The
highest change occured in the level four classification. The National
Park Service, which manages the area has no active forest management plan,
so any change that occured in levels I and II is the result of development
or a reflection of mapping error.
The change that occurs in the level IV classification
is a result of the Park Service's inactive role in forest management.
Many of the stands were young when the Park Service acquired this land,
and the intervening decade has given these forests time to reach maturity
and become more dense.
