Earth resources, such as natural gas, oil and coal, combined with new technologies involving wind power, solar energy and biofuels help to fuel the world we know today.  Geologist work not only to find new resources, but also to ensure that the extraction of fossil fuels and minerals respects the environment and protects the health of ground and surface waters.

Where will we find the energy resources of tomorrow?

Above geologists are producing a grid map of a potential low-level radioactive waste disposal site at the Wake-Chatham counties boundary, NC.

Not only are geologists interested in extracting natural resources, but they are also interested in how to safely deal with the waste products after extraction.
