Some history

The Southeastern Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy was founded by René Descartes in 1639 as the Seminaire philosophique du sud-est. Originally located in southeastern Holland, the seminar migrated to the US in 1993 after more than 350 years without a meeting.

OK none of that is true. In reality, The Southeastern Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy is an informal group that meets yearly for a weekend conference devoted to topics in 17th and 18th century philosophy.

Behold the great Descartes, founder of the Southeastern Seminar.

2007 Meeting scheduled for November 10-11

This year's meeting will take place over the weekend of November 10-11 at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. We'll be celebrating the 388th anniversary of Descartes' famous three dreams.

Deadline for submissions is September 15.

Information about the program and arrangements for accomodation will be available in early October.
