AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION:

Peach breeding and genetics, with emphasis on gene linkage and mapping, architectural mutants, late flowering, cold hardiness, and specialty fruit types. Ornamental plant breeding and genetics, with emphasis on Stokesia, Cercis, and Buddleia.

APPOINTMENT:  70% research and 30% academic affairs (1979-2005).  Currently 25% research, 35% extension, and 40% teaching.

RESEARCH EMPHASES AND GOALS:

•  Development of late flowering and cold hardy peach cultivars
•  Genetics of plant architecture in peach and Cercis
•  Development of improved ornamental cutivars of Buddleia and Cercis with emphasis on plant architecture and sterility.

•  ANS 215 (Basic Agricultural Genetics).  Team-taught for four semesters, 1991-1993.
•  HS 301 (Plant Propagation) and HS 301L (Plant Propagation Laboratory).  Taught fall semesters 1997-2005.
