"Is a Frenchman a man?
"Yes."
"Well, den! Dad blame it, why doan' he talk like a man?"

                                                                   -Jim and Huck Finn

I'm doing this against everyone's advice.  They all say learn Spanish, because everyone speaks Spanish, and it's what you need to get along, but I want to learn French.  Jean-Luc [Picard] speaks French and that's good enough for me.
