Gayle Plaia

I am the “Gayle of all trades”, providing technical, logistics and field support for our projects and managing day to day affairs for the lab. From designing the wet lab to preparing for and participating in field sampling and analyzing samples, I am involved in just about every aspect of the research here. I enjoy learning and developing sampling methods and draw on a varied experience and skill set that I hope is a valuable resource for the students. My past work includes invertebrate identification, stable isotope chemistry, submersible-based operations, pollution assays, teaching, museum exhibit design, and computer testing. Research interests are: invertebrate taxonomy, ecological assessment and monitoring, coral reef ecology, science education and outreach. I am married with 2 grown children and enjoy SCUBA diving, flying my Cessna 172, bicycling and photography.
