2. Goals and Objectives: This course is intended for liberal arts majors.  It selects a number of topics which are considered interesting to liberal arts students and in which novel math ideas are used.
 
 
3. Textbook: Excursions in Modern Math by Tannenbaum and Arnold, 3rd ed.

4. Topics and estimated days allocated to each topics: Voting systems; Weighted voting systems; Fair divisions; Euler Circuits; Minimum networks; Scheduling problems; other selected topics if time available.
 

5. Tentative schedule of reading assignments

As the topics are discussed students are encouraged to read the chapter involved at about a chapter every two weeks.
6. Tentative schedule of homework due dates, quizzes and tests
4 tests to be held on the weeks of Sept 3; Sept 27; Oct 20 and Nov 10.  Exact dates to be decided with input in class.
7. Determination of grades: + and - system
Attendance: some consideration in borderline cases.
Tests:  60 %
Final Exam  40%.
 

 

8. Policy on incomplete grades and late assignments:  A make up test will be given on the last day of classes.
