Kim

Kim Smith is a 24 year old college student at N.C. State majoring in Psychology. She's about 5-6, 130 lbs., and white. She is pretty, has sort of long brown hair, and electric blue eyes. All around, she's a pretty average individual. She wears normal clothes, i.e.. jeans, pullovers, sweat shirts, etc. Her favorite color is blue. She lives in Raleigh in her grandparents' house. They are dead, and her father, who is in a mental institution, killed her mother when she was very young. She lived with her grandparents until they died about a year ago. She saw no reason to sell the house and move into an apartment, so she now lives alone in the house. She is planning to sell it as soon as she graduates. She drives a red 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier. She doesn't smoke, and only drinks on occasion. She has a slight southern accent, but nothing that distinguishes her as being from the deep south. She has no brothers or sisters. She is Baptist, but hasn't found much time for church since she's been in college. However, she is quite satisfied with her beliefs. She has a part time job at a video store called Video Corner. It's a boring job, but it's very easy. She has many acquaintances but not that many close friends. Her best friend's name is Jennifer. Kim is easy to get along with, and likes to be by herself as much as she likes to be with others. She makes pretty good grades in school. She is satisfied with who she is. She doesn't really know what she wants to do at this point, but she knows it's in the field she's studying. She'd like to help others understand what kinds of problems they may be having. She doesn't know at this point if she ever wants to leave Raleigh or not. She is keeping her options open. Currently, she doesn't have a boy friend, but she hopes to meet someone she likes in the near future. She doesn't like guys who come on too strong, and that seems to be all that she's met lately. So, she's waiting for the right person to come along. Kim sees a psychiatrist because of what happened to her mother. She has long outgrown the need for one, but she keeps going because her grandparents wanted her in therapy until she was 25. She doesn't like being probed by them, and she has switched doctors several times. She doesn't really care about the quality of the treatment, she only wants to satisfy one of her grandparents' last wishes.

Jennifer

Jennifer Macmillan is Kim's best friend. They met their freshman year in college and have been close ever since. Jennifer is about 5-5, 125 pounds, white, and 24 years old. She's kind of pretty with red hair and brown eyes. She usually wears nice clothes, but has all types of clothes. Her favorite color is red. She lives in an apartment near school and drives a white Le Barron. She is majoring in Mass Communication at N.C. State, but she met Kim in PSY 200. She doesn't really know what she wants to do when she's through with college either, but she's the type of person that doesn't worry about things until the time comes. She has been going out with Scott for over a year now. She is unsure about their relationship also. She loves Scott, but she's taking their relationship one day at a time. She is unsure if they will get married or not. Kim is from Durham and moved to Raleigh to go to N.C. State. She had a good upbringing, and she has no major problems either emotionally or physically. She works part-time in the school library. She is an only child. She likes to do most of the same things Kim likes to do, which is probably why they are such good friends.

Scott

Scott is Jennifer's boyfriend. He's about 6-1, 185 pounds, white, 24 years old, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has lived in Raleigh for many years, but he lived in Chicago when he was very young. His family moved to Raleigh because of his Dad's job. He's sort of a spur of the moment kind of guy and likes sports. He wears nice clothes, although he's not as much in to fashion as Jennifer is. His favorite color is blue. Like Jennifer, he also lives in an apartment down by N.C. State. His major is Business Management. He met Jennifer in one of his classes, and he went to high school with Kim. He doesn't currently have a job, but has had a string of part-time jobs in the past. His parents help him out if he needs anything, but he's not overly dependent on them. He has a pretty good sense of humor and gets along with other people pretty well. He has one brother and one sister. He wants to 'own' something when he gets out of college, but he reall y has no idea what he will actually end up doing.

Driver

The Driver is a young girl in her early twenties. She's slender, about 5-5, 125 pounds, and white. She has medium length brown hair with green eyes. She is pretty much a space cadet, clueless to the dangers of life. She's very talkative, and usually acts before she thinks. She is a very trusting person. She has a sort of high, child-like quality to her voice. She's always been taken care of financially and thinks Daddy will solve everything. She doesn't have a job because her parents take care of everything for her. She drives a fairly new car her father bought for her. She's on her way back from a Halloween party one of her friends had.

Doctor

Doctor Alan Johnson is Kim's psychiatrist. He has just recently completed his Ph.D.. at N.C. State. He likes Kim as a patient, and he is willing to help her however he can. He's about 5-10, brown hair, brown eyes, 180 pounds, and white.

The Killer

The Killer is actually Kim's father, Jim Smith. He suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, and none of the known therapies have seemed to have an affect on him. He has been in a mental institution for 21 years. In the past 5 years, his condition has gotten worse, and he hasn't spoken in over a year. He killed Kim's mother when she was very young. He has never spent any time in prison, and no reason has ever been given for the murder of his wife. The only reason his doctors can give for his present and past condition is that something must have gone wrong in his childhood. Now that his speech is gone, they have been concentrating on drug therapy completely. He is approximately 6 feet tall and around 200 pounds. He is dressed in black and wears a Halloween mask.
