I believe that the biggest problem facing I/O Psychology is poor measurement.
When you ask persons to indicate how well a personality question represents
them, for example, even people with the same levels
of the personality trait can differ widely in their response. These problems
are exacerbated by asking persons to make judgments of others or more
subtle aspects of the organizational environment.
My interests
center around measurement issues. These include different
ways to statistically model different measurement instruments (e.g., structural
equation modeling, and item response theory) as well as more basic scale
development issues.
I also believe that the role
of the internet in the workplace will grow in the future. Recently,
I have become interested in issues related to
the internet. For example, are internet administered questionnaires really
equivalent to those collected via paper and pencil? Also, what role does
the internet play when people are looking for jobs?
