A Little Bit About Us

The history of DanceVisions started long before the founders arrived at NCSU. It started in Greensboro, NC with a dance teacher named Georgene Dye. Without her inspiration and guidance, DanceVisions may have never existed.

“Mamma” Dye encouraged Rhonda, Pamela, and Inga to continue dancing after they graduated from high school. After their arrival at NCSU, they began talking about creating a dance group. In October 1977, the three young girls had their first meeting to discuss the possibilities. That first semester, they made preparations by practicing recruiting other dancers, and finding an advisor. In February of the following year, they had their first performance and in April 1978 DanceVisions became an official student organization at NCSU and the first dance group to exist on campus.

Unfortunately, Ms. Dye passed away before DanceVisions was created.

DanceVisions was created to give young men and women an opportunity to express themselves creatively through body movement. Originally focusing on modern dance, DanceVisions has expanded its repertoire to now address various dance styles such as African, hip-hop, jazz, and lyrical. Over the years, the faces of DanceVisions’ members have changed, but the philosophy has remained the same. Among all the things that bring DanceVisions members together is their willingness to translate rhythm into motion, but also their love and passion for the art of dance.
