Ashley R. Kelly

Welcome

I am a doctoral student specializing in genre theory, rhetorical style, rhetoric of science, and technical communication. My research examines genres of science communication and production of scientific knowledge online, focusing on nuclear energy controversies. My exam and dissertation committee is led by Carolyn R. Miller (Chair, NCSU), and completed by William J. Kinsella (NCSU), Ann M. Penrose (NCSU), Jordynn M. Jack (University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill), and Randy Allen Harris (University of Waterloo).

Currently I am Research Assistant to Dr. Carolyn R. Miller, SAS Institute Distinguished Professor of Rhetoric and Technical Communication at NCSU. In this capacity, I study aspects of emerging genres and am assisting with a larger project designed to globally connect genre theory researchers. I am also the Instructor of Record for an upper-division undergraduate course titled "Communication for Engineering & Technology."

Outside of work, I am an avid F/LOSS user and GNU/Linux advocate. More than a decade ago I installed my first distribution of Linux and have been enjoying the range of experience offered by various distros ever since. Further, my enthusiasm for these technologies has provided me with significant technical skills, abilities, and interests.

Please feel very welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn, Twitter (@ashleyrkelly), or via email at arkelly2@ncsu.edu.
