Environmentally responsible urban pest control is a major concern in the United States. Cockroach infestations, especially, spread disease, cause psychological trauma, and serve as a significant source of allergens that cause childhood asthma. Moreover, many hog farms that sustain North Carolina's large swine industry are fertile breeding grounds for large cockroach populations, which cause major health concerns. Army and navy barracks in North Carolina are also notable sites for cockroach infestations.
