Undergraduate Mathematics Program
The undergraduate majors in mathematics and applied mathematics provide a core of basic mathematics courses along with flexible choices of electives, which permit both a well-rounded education and preparation for math-related careers. Students may focus their studies in financial mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematical physics, mathematical statistics, or computational mathematics. Employment objectives can be focused on quantitative careers in business or government, teaching at the secondary level, or graduate study in mathematics and/or related areas.Research Experience for Undergraduates in Mathematics
REU at NCSU: Did you know that NCSU has more research funding in the mathematical sciences than MIT, Cal Tech, Stanford, Berkeley, NYU, and all the schools in the Ivy League?

- Undergraduate Summer School Program at the Institute for Advanced Study in Park City Utah - opportunities for talented undergraduate students to enhance their interest in mathematics. This program is open to undergraduates at all levels, from first-year students to those who have just completed their undergraduate education. There will be many organized activities, with some specifically targeted at students at the introductory level and others at more advanced students. There will also be time for study groups and individual projects guided by advisors, as well as other activities.
- Center for Women in Mathematics at Smith College - For women in the junior year to attend Smith College to get intensive training in mathematics while building the skills and confidence needed to succeed in graduate school mathematics.
- Budapest Semester in Math - A 15-week mathematics study abroad program in Budapest, Hungary. Students take mathematics classes taught in English. Contact Dr. Paur for more information about this programs.
- Math in Moscow - A 15-week mathematics study abroud program in Moscow, Russia. Students take math classes taught in English. Contact Dr. Paur for more information about this programs.
- Penn State's MASS (Mathematics Advanced Study Semesters) Program - A fall semester at Penn State with advanced courses and beginning research.
- EDGE Summer Program for Women - For women who are entering graduate school or who have completed one year of graduate studies.
- Summer Math Institute - Held at Cornell University this program helps to prepare undergraduates (especially women and minorities) for graduate school.
-
National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program - The NREUP is administered by the MAA through its SUMMA (Strengthening Underrepresented Minority Mathematics Achievement) Program and made possible via a grant from the Moody's Foundation, the NSF, and the National Security Agency. These research experiences are similar in nature to REUs, but are designed to reach out to minority students at the midpoint of their undergraduate programs. The list of Summer 2010 REUs is now available.
-
The Carleton Summer Math Program for Women - For women who have finished their second (sophomore) year of college, this NSF sponsored program is designed to support and encourage women in their study of mathematics.
-
Summer Program for Women in Mathematics - Hosted by George Washington University, this intensive five-week program is for women who have finished their junior year of college and may be considering graduate work in the mathematical sciences.
