Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases

Spring 2006

Classes will be held 13:30-14:45 on Mondays and Wednesdays, in Harrelson Hall, Room 368.

Papers

  • Armstrong et al. 1999. "Trends in Infectious Disease Mortality in the United States During the 20th Century.
  • Jacquez and Simon 1993 Discussion of stochastic SI (with births and deaths) and SIS models. Includes the derivation of Kolmogorov forward equations and their numerical integration, together with more detailed stochastic analyses. Interesting discussion of conditioning the stochastic process on non-extinction.
  • generatingfunctionology. Herbert Wilf's online version of his book "generatingfunctionology". Contains lots of interesting discussion of generating functions, their use in combinatorics and in the solution of difference equations, and lots more besides.
