Prerequisites MA 241 with grade of C or better.

Syllabus: Third of three semesters in a calculus sequence for science and engineering majors.

Textbook:  Calculus, Concepts and Contexts, J. Stewart, 2nd Edition. I expect you to read sections of the book around the time of lectures and attempt homework from those sections. The book has additional examples and discussion that you will find helpful. Some test questions may resemble examples from the book.

Homework: All homework assignments should be submitted through WebAssign: http://www.webassign.net/ncsu/. You are responsible for completing each webassign homework by the deadline posted on the assignment.  No extensions of WebAssign will be given when the request is made after the deadline. Travel plans cannot be considered as a reason for webassign extensions.

Maple Labs: There will be five Maple homework assignments. All Maple homework should be submitted to mini_submit (http://egrader.math.ncsu.edu/eGrader/gethw.php). All information about your Maple work as well as homework start and due dates can be found at the URL: http://www.math.ncsu.edu/calculus . There will be regular weekly tutorial sessions from 3:30PM-5:30PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays in G-108. These tutorial sessions will begin the 2nd week of classes.

Attendance: Required. In order to take the final exam, your class attendance must exceed 90%. This policy will be strictly enforced. Officially excused absence will be counted toward attended classes.

Tests/exams: There will be four tests during the semester and a comprehensive final exam.

Tentative dates of tests: September 16, October 5, November 2, November 23.
Final Exam: December 7, 8:00AM-11:00AM.

All tests are closed book/notes.
You are not allowed to bring computer algebra systems such as Maple to the tests.

Missed tests/quizzes:

Grading:  WebAssign homework - 20%, Maple labs - 10%, class tests - 40%, final examination - 30%.
The responsibility for grading tests reside with the teaching assistants (TAs). If you believe an error has been made in grading, bring it to the TA who did the grading during his or her office hours. If you believe that you should have gotten more points than you got, write a statement making your case and take it to the TA. If you are not satisfied with the TA's decision, bring the statement to your course instructor, who will make the final decision.

Grading Scale: 86%-100%: A, 71%-85%: B, 61%-70%: C, 55%-60%: D, less than 55%: F   (+ and - will also be used.)

Notifications: Students will be notified in class or via email of announcements associated with this course.  The email address registered with the NCSU online directory will be used for this purpose.  It is the student's responsibility to maintain a valid email address and check the email sent to it.
