MA 241 - Analytic Geometry and Calculus II (Spring 2003)

Syllabus: Second of three semesters in a calculus sequence for science and engineering majors.

The topics we will cover include:

  • Integrals.
  • Applications of Integration.
  • Differential Equations.
  • Infinite Sequences and Series.

    Required Text: James Stewart, Calculus, 2nd edition.

  • Sections 6.1-6.4
  • Sections 7.2-7.3
  • Sections 7.7-7.8
  • Sections 7.7-7.8 - Examples
  • Sections 8.1-8.5

    Homework: Homework will be assigned, but not collected. However, many homework problems, with or without slight modifications, will appear in quizzes and tests (so will the examples that I work on in my lectures). Thus, it is absolutely imperative to work on each of the assigned problems.

  • Homework Assignments

    Maple Lab Schedule: January 22, February 12, March 5, March 26, April 9.
    All Labs will take place in HA 314, 4:35-5:30PM.

    Tests: There will be ten quizzes, four tests during the semester and a comprehensive final exam.

    Quizzes: There will be ten quizzes during the semester.
    Tests: February 5, March 3, March 26, April 23.
    Final Exam: May 12, 1:00-4:00PM .
    Missed tests: There will be no makeup tests/quizzes. If you miss a final exam without a valid excuse, a zero will be averaged into your grade.

    Grading: Class tests - 40%, final examination -35%, quizzes - 15%, Maple Lab homework - 10%. In computing your quiz average I will drop the lowest 3 grades. The homework and quizzes grades will only count if the weighted average grade on class tests and the final exam is 60 or above.
