1996 was our Year of the Hurricane as we got a triple whammy. Hurricane Bertha damaged some of our study forests on the coastal plain. Hurricane Josephine damaged our wetland creation project in Beaufort County. Hurricane Fran wrecked havoc with our coastal plain forests and our experimental plots on the Hill Forest, north of Durham.

Hurricane Fran just about the time she threw a 145-year-old white oak through my roof.
