Assignment 2: Reading and Discussing Introductions
Reutrn to your complete article from PMLA as retrieved in Assignment
1. Make a copy of the first page of that article. Next, find one
book published in the last 10 years in your field, read the complete introduction
to it, and and make a copy of the first page of the introductory chapter.
For the PMLA article, pay particular attention to the mechanics of
MLA citation. Study the parenthetical citation, the explanatory notes
page, and the Works Cited. Your selected book may or may not use
MLA style, but attend to its citation form as well.
Read and take notes on these two introductions, then be ready to talk
about these questions about them: do they resemble the abstracts you read?
if so, how? What is the most significant difference, besides length, between
an abstract and these introductions?
Be prepared to discuss these 2 introductions in class. Hand in the copy of the first page of the introductions to the PMLA esssay and the book. Be sure to put your name on each.
