About Dance Flies This website is the official site for the project proposal "Sexual characters and diversification in empidine dance flies (Diptera: Empididae: Empidinae)" submitted to the US National Science Foundation July 2007.

The project goals are to:
1) Estimate the phylogeny of the Empidinae using morphology and DNA sequence data
2) Trace the evolution of mating-related characters (behavior and morphology)
3) Investigate the effects of these characters on rates of speciation
