Other Assistance: The topics in Math 231 are also available on videotapes in the Mathematics Multimidea Center (MCC). These can be very helpful in reviewing material or if you have to miss a lecture. In addition Tutoring is available on a first come first serve basis in the MMC. Check the MMC web page for details.

There is also free tutoring service available to NCSU undergraduates. The Undergraduate Tutorial Center provides various tutoring services for students enrolled for credit in 100 and 200-level math courses. The Walk-in Tutoring Services (formerly called the "Academic Enrichment Center"), located in 201 Witherspoon Student Center , is a drop-in tutorial service. Students can visit the website at http://www.ncsu.edu/tutorial_center/wits.html to view the current schedule. The service will open for the spring semester on Wednesday, January 23rd (after the MLK, Jr. break).

The UTC also offers individual tutoring by appointment. Students should call 515-3163 or visit 147 Leazar Hall for more information if they want to find out more about this option.

The text for our section is Calculus and Its Applications by Goldstein, Lay, and Schneider. NINTH EDITION. NEW EDITION FALL 2000 There is also a SUPPLEMENT.

Tests will be closed book. There will be 4 tests plus a final. The lowest regular exam score will be dropped. Since it is hard to predict when life will get tough it is highly recommended to not use this to just skip a test. Often students discover later in the semester that they wish they still had a test to drop.

Test I Feb. 6, Wed.

Test II Mar. 6, Wed.

Test III April 12, Fri.

Test IV April 26, Fri.

FINAL Wed, May 8, 1:00-4:00 pm. Final date cannot be moved for convenience or for travel purposes.

Syllabus The proposed syllabus is to cover the following sections. The order they will be covered in class may differ slightly from this list.

Official University Statements

Some supplementary items are at stuff

1. Determination of grades: +/- system is used

Test 1: 20 %
Test 2: 20 %
Test 3: 20 %
Final Exam 40 % (see next paragraph)

In addition, the following clarifications are used in this course:

2. Policy on incomplete grades and late assignments:
Incomplete grades will not be given, you must complete the assignments for the course as the semester progresses.

Late assignments: will not be accepted without prior permission of the instructor.

Missed Tests: There are no scheduled make up tests. If you must miss an exam, you must notify the instructor as soon as is possible. Note there is both email and a message recorder in his office. Make up exams will be scheduled when there is a valid reason and when prompt notification is given. For example, if your car breaks down on the way to school that may explain why you would need to take the exam later that same day. It would not be an acceptable excuse two days later.

3. Policy on absences (excused and unexcused) and scheduling makeup work:

The attendance policy is consistent with the Academic Regulations which can be found at http://www2.ncsu.edu/unity/project/www/ncsu/provost/info/academic_regulations/attend/reg.htm (link)

In addition, the following clarifications are used in this course:

Attendance is required. Attendance will be taken.

Class Absences: if you miss class for any reason, you are responsible for the material covered. Every student is expected to find someone in the class to whom they can ask questions or get missed assingments from.   Except for very special circumstances, Prof. Campbell will not provide extra help when you miss the class.

Exam Absence:  NCSU policy is strictly enforced.  Documentation is required for all absences.

Final Exam: The exam will be given at the date and time specified by NCSU Reg & Records. It is your responsibility to arrange travel around this date.  The only exceptions are (1) a documented excused absence, or (2) 3 exams in 24 hours (the student is responsible for the paperwork, as indicated in the Handbook for Advising and Teaching)
