2. Goals and Objectives:

    MA231 is the second course of a two-semester sequence in calculus, designed for students who
    require a brief overview of the basic concepts, including modeling and differential equations. The
    first course in the sequence, and the prerequisite for MA231 is MA131. MA121 cannot be accepted
    as the prerequisite.

3. Text and Supplementary Material:

Text: Goldstein, Lay and Schneider, Calculus and Its Applications, 9th Edition (Prentice-Hall, 2001)
Supplementary material: White, R.E.: Supplement

       The textbook is available at the bookstore with a price about $100 for new, and $75 for used.
       It may be listed under 'MA131' at the bookstore. The supplementary is also available at bookstore,
       for a price around $5.00.

4. Grading Policy

Class participation: 5%.
Homework: 10%.

Homework will be checked every two weeks due every other Wednesday.
Must follow the specific format.
Late homework only get partial credit (up to 50%).
Some problems (around 40%) will be on your tests.

Tests: 50%.

Four in-class, half-open-book tests will be given. Refer to class calendar for test dates.
Each test will cover the lecture contents between the test and the last test (if any).
The lowest score will be dropped is your attendance is good (absence is less than 5 times).
No make-up tests.

Final exam: 35%. Half-open-book. Date: Dec 13, Friday, 1:00pm-4:00pm.

Note: Half-open-book means you can bring a sheet with useful formulas, theorems, etc. on it.

5. Class Regulation:
      Late arrival and early departure are not allowed. Could be counted as absence.
      Constant talking and irrelevant reading are prohibited.
