Teaching portfolio
Applicants who are not eligible for or who are not accepted into NC TEACH must
meet the admission requirements and follow the same application procedures listed
above but may complete the program by doing the following.
Candidates must complete the professional education courses listed below. They
may be met with the BA/BS degree, taken at NC State, or taken at another institution
with approval of the program coordinators.
" Introduction to Teaching (ECI 205) OR Diverse Populations (ECI 305) OR
Exceptional Students (ECI 416) (3 hrs)
" Developmental Psychology (PSY 376) (3 hrs)
" Educational Psychology (EDP 304) (3 hrs)
" School and Society (ELP 344) (3 hrs)

Licensure-only in French/Spanish

Admission Requirements: Licensure Only candidates must hold a BA or BS degree with a minimum 2.5 grade point average and must prove content knowledge through a combination of university coursework in French/Spanish and scores on PRAXIS II specialty exams. In addition, they must complete courses in Professional Education.
Application procedure:
1. Score report from completion of the PRAXIS II Specialty Exam in French or
Spanish. Required tests are determined by NC Department of Public Instruction.

2. Transcript that shows completion of a BA or BS degree, including date, subject
area and cumulative grade point average. Additional transcript(s) of all French/Spanish
and professional education university-level coursework, if applicable.
3. Completed application and residency form. You must have a Social Security
Number.
4. Check or money order for $50.00, payable to the Department of Foreign Languages
and Literatures. (Note: $25.00 fee for returned check)
Following a favorable review of all materials, each candidate will receive a
contract which outlines requirements that must be met in order to be recommended
for licensure in French/Spanish by NC State University. The following areas
will be addressed:
1. Content knowledge: All candidates must receive a passing score on the PRAXIS
II Specialty Exam. Those who receive a passing score prior to applying to the
program will not have to take additional courses in French/Spanish. (Applicants
who receive passing scores may be eligible for the Lateral Entry Program through
NC TEACH. See http://ced.ncsu.edu/ncteach.) Those who do not receive passing
scores will have to complete content courses that are specified by the program
coordinators of the French/Spanish Licensure Only Program and retake the exam
until a passing score is received.
2. Professional Education: Candidates must complete the courses listed below.
They may be met with the BA/BS degree, taken at NC State, or taken at another
institution with approval of the program coordinators.

Important notes:
" ECI 423 and 424 comprise the "Professional Semester" and cannot
be taken in conjunction with other coursework nor with employment. They are
offered fall semester only.
" During the Professional Semester students must complete an extensive
portfolio in order to demonstrate all competencies required of French/Spanish
licensure applicants in North Carolina. Students are advised to review the portfolio
assignment and begin work on it before the professional semester. Program coordinators
will offer advising regarding courses that may be taken to help students prepare
the portfolio.
Upon completion of requirements, candidates must submit required forms, documentation
and fees to the Director of Teacher Education at NC State University. The Director
submits materials to the NC Department of Public Instruction with the recommendation
that a license be conferred. The NC Department of Public Instruction awards
licenses to qualified candidates.
