Grading:  See information at http://sasw.chass.ncsu.edu/fl/spanish/general.htm and please note carefully this additional information on Preparation and Participation -- In addition to attending class, you are expected to participate actively. Preparation and practice are essential for success in learning a foreign language. You must complete all textbook, workbook and lab activities indicated on the assignment sheet and contribute to all class activities. 15% of the grade is for Workbook activities, 25% is for Lab activities and 60% is for Daily Preparation and Participation, evaluated using the Daily Preparation and Participation Rubric.

Attendance : Attendance is mandatory because of the nature of the course.  Your instructor and your classmates depend on you to be present every day to take part in class activities designed for the participation of all students.  As indicated on the Daily Preparation and Participation Rubric, preparation and participation points are not awarded when a student misses class with an unexcused absence. Therefore, any unexcused absence will have a negative impact on your Preparation and Participation grade.  There is an additional penalty for excessive absences.  If you miss more than three classes with unexcused absences, your final course grade will be lowered by four points.  For each additional class that you miss, your grade will be lowered by an additional point.

Make-up Work :  You are expected to complete assignments and take tests on time.  Do not expect to make up missed work or turn assignments in late without a penalty.  In the event of a serious emergency you must contact the professor by phone or email before the date of a test or assignment. You should leave a message if the professor is unable to answer the telephone when you call, but please note that a message does not automatically constitute prior approval.

Language Lab :  Lab work must be completed via http://books.quia.com. Each student must have a current account and must complete activities for each chapter of the Plazas text. Work may be done in a campus lab such at the CHASS Lab in the Laundry Building http://fltc.chass.ncsu.edu/ or at any computer with internet connection and speakers.

Academic Integrity : I take the university policy on academic integrity very seriously and I expect you to do so as well.  You will be expected to sign a pledge on each test and on out-of-class assignments.  Please ask if you have any questions about the policy.

Plus/Minus Grading System : I, and all other instructors of Spanish courses, will use the plus/minus grading system this semester.
