Research and Teaching Interests, in brief

I am a developmental neurobiologist. How the nervous system puts itself together during development and how it repairs itself (or why it fails to do so) after injury, during disease, and during normal aging are issues of great interest to me. Current research in the lab focuses on the neonatal rodent neuromuscular junction. Click here for more information about the research conducted in my lab.

My current teaching responsibilities include an introductory neurobiology course each fall for undergraduate (ZO 488) and graduate (ZO 588) students (ZO 488 syllabus and schedule) and selected topics in neuroscience each spring in a seminar format. Click here for more information about the courses I teach.

Opportunities for Research and Study

The Triangle area -- which includes NCSU, Duke University, University of North Carolina, and Research Triangle Park -- is home to an active neuroscience community. Neuroscientists in the area meet monthly to socialize and to discuss recent developments in the neurosciences. Students at NCSU also can take courses offered at UNC and Duke. At NCSU, neurobiology is represented by faculty in several departments as well as in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Also at NCSU, the Keck Center for Behavioral Biology brings together scientists interested in the biological bases of behavior for monthly meetings, an annual symposium for student research, and an annual professional development symposium.

If you are interested in research opportunities in neuroscience or behavioral biology at NCSU, I encourage you to look into the research being conducted in the following NCSU labs. You can also look through faculty associated with the NCSU Keck Center for Behavioral Biology.
